The way to connect is using the normal JDBC methods using a correctly formed JDBC-url. For example:
jdbc:firebirdsql://server:port/database
(next once I do from memory so I might be wrong)
jdbc:firebirdsql:java://server:port/database (is identical to the first)
jdbc:firebirdsql:embedded:<path-to-database> (use embedded server; requires dll loading)
jdbc:firebirdsql:native://server:port/database (use native client; requires dll loading)
