Sorry this didnt really help i have enclosed my
findings:
Use CONNECT or CREATE DATABASE to specify a database
SQL> CONNECT "/data/db/employee.fdb"
CON> user 'SYSDBA' password 'letmein'
CON> ;
Statement failed, SQLCODE = -902
Your user name and password are not defined. Ask your
database administrator to set up a Firebird login.
SQL> exit;
[root@linuxdb bin]# cat SYSDBA.password
cat: SYSDBA.password: No such file or directory
[root@linuxdb bin]# cat ../SYSDBA.password
# Firebird generated password for user SYSDBA is:
ISC_USER=sysdba
ISC_PASSWD=letmein
# generated on linuxdb.snpsukserver01 at time Wed Sep
14 17:36:33 BST 2005
# Your password can be changed to a more suitable one
using the
#c script
# For superserver you will also want to check the
password in the
# daemon init routine in the file
/etc/rc.d/init.d/firebird
[root@linuxdb bin]# ./isql

Running ex to modify /etc/rc.d/init.d/firebird
[root@linuxdb bin]# cat /opt/firebird/SYSDBA.password
# Firebird generated password for user SYSDBA is:
ISC_USER=sysdba
ISC_PASSWD=database
there must be a simple way......
