We are investigating Firebird as a replacement for Sybase Adaptive
Server Anywhere. To test out Firebird, I've take our 4GB database
and ported the data model and data to a Firebird 1.5 database. I'm
running some sample queries against both Sybase and Firebird using
JMeter and the Jaybird JDBC driver. Both databases are running on a
Windows 2003 server. One client is running Windows XP, the other
Windows 98. Both have Java 1.5 installed.

So far, I'm getting terrible performance from the Firebird database.
I'm wondering if folks here could give me some hints on how to improve
this?
