You were absolutely right, there was an explicit commit being called from an
_obscure_ method. Shame on me. I should have followed the stack trace since
the begginning. Sorry.

As I said, I guess the problem with the AutoCommit is solved. However, there
are still the problems with the second case (with AutoCommit false).
Unfortunately we are not printing the stack trace for these exceptions, but
I am working on another compilation with this. The exceptions occur in the
following order:

org.firebirdsql.jdbc.FBSQLException: GDS Exception. Dynamic SQL Error
// No stack trace (yet)

java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect
// No stack trace (yet)
