First to David. I didn't mention before, because it wasn't relevant,
that when my error occured the driver/connection/tomcat went off to
never-never land, but the CVS driver behaved much more robustly and
returned to send me to the login error page. Kudos to solid code.

Next Rick. Yes this was the problem. I had wondered about
capitalization but each sample seemed to use its own spelling and I
just split the difference.

All is working now.
