This is with firebird running on Solaris/WinNT and the client-java driver

If you are willing to spend a little more time on this, could you set debug
= true in org.firebirdsql.jgds.GDS_Impl and post or send directly to me the
trace when you run your failing example?

Unfortunately reasonable logging is not yet implemented.
