I suspect it isn't too hard to compile interserver on Solaris x86 if you
are familiar with their libraries and compiler stuff -- someone got pretty
far a couple of months ago without knowing much of anything about c++. I'd
use the ant script I wrote for linux, but if you are a makefile expert you
might be able to use the Borland makefiles. In the ant script I think the
main problems are figuring out the gcc command line options.

Of course if funding or time is available I think it would more
appropriately be spent on the all java driver:-). It may work well enough
as is, and if there are specific problems I may be able to help out.
