Just been doing a little housekeeping on a site that has not hassled me
for a while. The diary there goes back to 2002 and there has been no
reason to change things ... except we had to upgrade machines a couple
of times due to things like losing XP. The current server had clocked up
163 days since it was last rebooted, and it backs up every day to a
second machine, but after 3900+ hours of idle time the next longest
running app was Firebird at 3.5 hours :) The management apps running
backup and updating the displays managed an extra 1 hour. So we need a
'big' computer to install windows but something considerably slower
could probably handle the load?
They are running W7 at the moment, I'm dreading a change to W10 ... the
sites that have been forced to switch to that are ALL doing overnight
reboots of the machines as none would run a week without a hickup of
some sort. One of the XP machines managed 5 years before it got a reboot
and that was because they had to power down the site for a mains supply
problem :)
