I think part of the problem with 'acceptance' is that people have some
rather fixed ideas on what things like wiki, blobs and forums are and
how they should work, but at the end of the day they are simply
different ways of displaying TEXT and nothing more. If we can use the
one on-line editor to manage any of this content then life has to be
simpler and I have no doubt that an wysiwyg XML editor will appear to
compliment the current html offerings. Linking this content to provide
pages of a book, or posts in a forum are then just a matter of indexing?
wiki.firebirdsql.org does seem to have been switched off again :(

If you feel like contributing to the (re-)setting up, I think Lester Caine would be very pleased -- unless he's too frustrated by now with the previous failures to set up anything on firebirdsql.org.

If the wiki is any good, it will thrive on its own strength. If it turns out to be so great that our existing HTMLs and PDFs look pathetic next to it, we may channel that information into the wiki and stop our DocBook-based authoring - *but only if and when that happens*, i.e. if the wiki, at some point in the future, has proven to be superior to our current setup. A system that needs all other avenues cut off beforehand in order to stand a chance doesn't seem very viable to me.The one thing I personally see is an integrated web presence, and there
is no reason that XML formated documents could not actually be used as
part of that. I certainly prefer formats other then simple 'wiki' for
creating content, and managing translated copies of that content should
be core to a 'CMS' system as well.
