I'm trying to convince my boss to go back to firebird from db2
We are doing a big web application with jboss, that runs on multiple
sites.
In the first place we used firebird 1.5 which i really liked, because
administration is easy and it just worked.
2 years ago it was decided to go to db2 express-c which is available
for free because of business reasons. My boss is just thinking an
application that states it is using "Big IBMs DB2" is easier to sell.
Now after 2 years dealing with db2 i just think its not the right db
for our application. Seems that db2 really likes to be actively
managed by an database administrator to run properly. If not it seems
to get into some strange states from time to time leaving the
application in an unusable state.
If the database is setup properly once, the only administration task
i want to do is making regular backups.
I really would like to go back to use firebird but i need to convince
my boss that it is a good idea and that DB2 is just not the right
choice for us.
So if you can give me good reasons why DB2 sucks and Firebird rules,
let me hear about it!
