Subject Oracle licenses Open Invention Network patents
Author marius popa
I guess patent "protection" apply to firebird too

Oracle <http://www.oracle.com/> has signed a patent
agreement<http://www.marketwire.com/mw/release_html_b1?release_id=231001>with
the Open Invention Network (
OIN <http://www.openinventionnetwork.com/>).

OIN is an association <http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/65985> of
major companies from the IT and entertainment electronics
sector<http://www.openinventionnetwork.com/about_members.php>that
manages its own pool of patents as a nonprofit organization. The pool
now contains more than a hundred strategic patents that can be used for free
by anyone who promises not to exert any patent claims against Linux and
other open-source software. The database vendor is the most recent licensee.

Oracle's participation is especially interesting because patent
protection<http://www.openinventionnetwork.com/pat_linuxdefpop.html>for
the network also applies to the two free databases MySQL and
PostgreSQL.
