The Examiner Newspaper was approached to be a supporting partner in Ken
Gourlay's solo sailing endeavour around the world as a fund raising effort
for research into eyesight disorders.
While the site started out simple and clean, it soon grew, as the organising
committee wanted to track Ken's position, have diary entries, weather and
temperature monitoring, provide a Blog for supporters to send feedback and
messages, and provide easy content management for the site.
Only one database engine was even considered - Firebird.
It's tiny footprint, and rich featureset easily provided for all the
requests dreamed up by the committee, and Ken's only half way around the
globe...
