I think that it is not the biggest issue. The biggest issue requires
everybody to use browser to be able to read and post messages and it
requires all to be online. While this might not be an issue for
Western Europe and USA, we have a lot of people from other countries
that use dial-up connections.

Fetching emails from the IMAP/POP3 box requires less traffic, is
faster and so on.
