Last August, CA announced open source ingres & its challenge.
Now consider this:
- less than 2,500 posts in the community forums since then
http://opensource.ca.com/projects/ingres/forum
- less than 10,000 users to start with
http://www.computerweekly.com/Article134656.htm
- no press releases since november:
http://www3.ca.com/solutions/presslist.asp?ID=1013
- a challenge with bad economics & no winners (was planned 21 Apr 05)

Might we conclude that Open Source Ingres is a dud?? If so, I pity
the CA marketing manager who has to figure out a way to spin this
into something positive.
We, on the other hand, can spin this in our favour:
- 3 big proprietary RDBMS's
- 2 (3 including PG) big OS databases
- all others seem to lack "long term credibility" for mainstream use
