It was recently suggested by someone that a GUI be shipped with Firebird
that could run on all platforms.
While we all know there's a plethora of them, it would be nice if you could
point your browser at a port, and it answered.
Then I started thinking. What if we started with the source of a tiny HTTP
server
(THTTPD would be perfect - http://www.acme.com/software/thttpd/), either
modified it to talk to Firebird directly, or wrote a slick .cgi program that
nestled inside, we could provide either:
A GUI for querying, table mods, etc
A small application server, with control over field layout on forms
A monitoring system - oldest open transaction, number of connections,
diskspace, etc.
Also, what does Oracle Application Server provide? Can we do it?
Nige.
