Exactly, but you will never win if you play by the rules imposed by
your enemy. In order to win you have to change the rules of the game.

Think about open-source software - we would not be able to compete, if
we would try to get fees for the software; but we changed the rules
and we are winning more and more - Oracle, Microsoft, others have to
release products for free.

But when they gather that concept, all these funny motions under the
curtain suddenly start looking ugly. What you get, is free marketing
by word. If we would have too much money, we could do traditional
marketing. Since we don't, we have to be creative. Mimicking others is
not creative.

Creative is releasing user documentation, writing promoting articles,
etc. where we explain why "one size fits all" is exactly what people
need. Consider the article comparing Oracle MVCC and Firebird one. The
only compaints from Oracle fans were that MVCC happened to be added in
v.2 (which is probably true, but from the other POV people say it
became usable only in 7.x), and Oracle can be considered to be
"naturally multiversioned" since v.2 was complete rewrite. We changed
the rules - found an issue in Oracle and released a whitepaper
explaining why Firebird is better.
