Depends on what you mean by 'transactions'. If you mean 250K inserts/updates
per hour, then yes, we are running systems that handle that amount, if you
mean 'transactions' in the FB sense (start transaction -> do stuff -> commit)
you will need to give more details.

We do have have a middle tier that does buffer 'transactions' and feeds them
to the db as and when it is ready, which works well because our systems are
not full whack 24/7.
