The recent posts about new firebird sites, and the idea of a
http://planetfirebird.com site has had me thinking.
Would it be a good idea to setup a system like OSTG, where a central hub,
not necessarily storing any information of it's own, is used to rapidly
link, or navigate into sections of other's sites, i.e. Lesters Wiki, Alex's
'everythingfirebird.com', ibphoenix, etc.
Then, just as 'Slashdot.org' and 'freshmeat.net' do, have a small strip
along the top of the page, indicating that this site is part of the
'community' of firebird sites.
The strip could have a search functionality to also search (via it's own
database), to track down information on any topic, on any Firebird Community
site.
Perhaps(just an extension of the idea), PlanetFirebird could store things
like Code Samples, Tutorials, Downloads and How-Tos of it's own, as well as
providing shortcuts to examples on existing sites.
No repeating of data or articles, just a quick and efficient way of
accessing resources already in existance...
We could even go so far as having common style sheets, so each site looked
similar, to enhance the 'one-ness' of the community...?
Just a thought anyway...
