mostly I find your words comforting. Just make sure words are followed by actions. That things are delayed is understandable and common for software, but if things happen in the wrong order people get upset.
The reasons you state about the Mozilla Foundation are fair enough, but do not let Mozilla Firebird proceed in its development before your mistakes are corrected. If the development continues without correcting the name, that will be a good reason for us to feel neglected and ignored ("see, they are implementing these nice features, but have no time to correct the naming"), and will probably yet again result in quite nasty mails between our two camps.
