4 years in development environment (i.e. lots of
experimentation and potentiall for errors) and still only
one crash - settings were wrong so it's not really FB's
fault.

Besides:

- very small footprint
- ANSI 92 compliant
- stored procedures
- User Defined Functions (UDFs)
- portability between OS'es
- trully free (MySQL is requires payment if distributed for
commercial gain as a part of your project)
- no dba admin required
- lots of good tools (many free and/or oppen source)
- good support for Delphi (natively or via 3rd party
components)
- time proven since early 80's
- devoted group of followers, lead by the some of the best
people in the industry
