I have always thought that the name should better reflect what the
product is...

You have MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc...

I think FirebirdSQL will be good to add to the list, and yes, I know
there are others that don't have SQL in their name like Oracle (etc) but
they tend to be so big or well known that they can stand on their own...
You say Oracle and you think DBs, you say Firebird and you think...
cars... (well everyone I have asked does around here anyway :-) )

Also, as an image branding thing... Compare these two web sites...

http://firebird.sourceforge.net/ (aka www.firebirdsql.org probably the
first site a visitor would come to)

vs

http://www.firebirdsql.org/ff/foundation/


The FirebirdSQL.org site just looks better, the logo looks cleaner and
better, and the name font choice for FirebirdSQL looks better or more
professional...

I know this is all personal opinion, it is just my $0.02 worth :-)
