In the actual August 2002 Edition of the popular German "iX" magazine
(http://www.heise.de/ix), there is an 4 pages article about Firebird
1.0,
with the headline (translated from German) "Firebird 1.0: The 'true'
InterBase" ;-).

Of course, in the article there is nothing new for us, but it
discusses for
example features, which are missing in MySQL. One thing is odd,
because
IBConsole is mentioned/shown as administration utility.

The article ends up with a short rating:

+ Installation
+ Maintainability
+ Online-Backup
+ OS-Migration using a transportable backup
+ Resource consumption

- Lack of password security


Btw, there is also an article about SapDB (another Open-Source
Database based on Adabas), but no comparison between Firebird and
SapDB
