I like both versions, but I agree with David Jencks' initial comment about
the wing separating a bit awkward - in particular I think it seems as the
front of the chest has been truncated and that it is rather slim to be a
bird. I don't know what a firebird actually looks like, but unless is has a
distinct colour I think the "Fire" solution is the best choice.
