Yes you're right - I know of the example, and I "normally" solve it the
"old-fashioned" way with a detail table :-)
There might be things more "needed" than nested tables, but I could include
some other "nice-to-have" features:
External tables in different flavours (xBase, Oracle ...) - readonly would
be sufficient :-)
Backup/Restore via SQL.
a diffenrent "ISC4.GDB" solution...
...but now this mail should have been on the IB-Architect list :-)
Cheers
steffen
PS. It is also good for their marketing-guys :-)
Oracle 7 introduced Blobs - well IB had them for +15 years - sorry but I
have been working with Oracle and I've never been impressed, apart from how
long everything took (installation, backup and restore) - UPS now I will
get flamed :-)

Subject: Re: [IBDI] Nested Tables
I am not very familiar with arrays but as I understand
you can must declare the size of the array when you
define the table.
The idea of a nested table would for example be an
address book where a John can have multiple phone numbers.
The phone number field would become a nested table type
and all the telno's would be inserted here.
This is not a good example but it illustrates my point.
Cheers Gerhardus
PS Oracle would not have had nested tables if they
didnt think it would be good for something :)
