Hi...
Here is a something I've posted on ibbuild group. Rob is away for a few
more days yet. But I thought I would make this request a bit more
widely known.

Hi Rob
How do you feel about moving you CVS tree to the firebirdashes project
at sourceforge?
I think it has been invaluable to have a none Inprise focus point for
the code/build mod's to consolidate arround and I would prefer not to
have two source code trees up, so I probably wont proceed unless your
happy with it.
In fact I was kinda hoping that you would be happy to just change where
you CVSROOT points to and keep doing what your doing now.
I can help if you want as I am (very) familure with CVS trees.
I think that sourceforge is a good idea because:
1. Sourceforge is a recognised opensoure site. with no commercial
interest in interbase, I think many people feel burned by how Inprise
has released the source and would feel more comfortable contributing to
something that has a little distance from them. This probably applies
to any other commerical enterprise. Although in the fullness of time
who knows what will happen.
2. Sourceforge offer excellent facilities for support that many other
open source developers are familure with.
I personally am not looking for a huge role in this. I am happy to
start this as it seems to be what is needed now, and as I am familure
with some of the tools. Personally I have no commercial interest in
InterBase, and that at the moment is probably an advantage. In the
medium to long term, after the dust settles, I expect to fade back into
a contributing code and possibly ideas.
In my opinion, ownership of open source projects belong to those that
work on them.
The firebirdashes project is at:
If you want to volunteer, please wait until we hear from Rob, and if he
is willing then wander over to:
http://sourceforge.net/project/?group_id=9052
and register.
Then I want to get back to coding...
Regards
Mark
PS: Usually I work pretty close to my computer and my internet
connection. This and the comming week however I am working offsite, at
a clients site with limited internet access. But I will endevour to
read my email, at least daily.
