I really think the code should be forked, completely and totally. In
accordance with the license, we will probably always have to have the notice
"this product contains code dev. by Inprise"(in no larger than 1pt font of
course, because the license does not specify the size of the notice). But
aside from that, we should disassociate "Firebird" or whatever it will be
named, from Inprise. They can never be trusted again. The documentation and
test suites can be rebuilt. It will take a little time, but it can be done.

This is clearly the ONLY way the project can proceed as opensource. I would
also REALLY like to see Jim Starkey come back. If he would take on the same
type of role as Linus did with LINUX, I really think the project would be
hugely successful.
