Well, the API is really bad (all those one-two character codes for commands
- reminded me Assembler), but it was fairly easy to write an ADO-like class
wrapper. After I did this, no one of my developers ever looks at underlying
BRS objects. But the problem with Dataware is that they were burning cash,
particularly losing money on BRS/Search and related products, so now they
are in the process of wrapping that up. What they wanted is to find some
distributors in US as well as around the world to sell the source code to
(under non-exclusive agreement), so they could be reselling and supporting
BRS/Search while Dataware would continue using it in their "e-solution
stuff", trying to generate more revenue from services rather that
shrink-wrapped software. Sounds a lot like Inprise a year ago...

Anyway, unlike Inprise, Dataware's cash is about 10% of that a year ago and
at present burn rates I wouldn't be surprised if they close the shop by the
end of the year.
