Actually we were needing more space for we discuss on
this - well and better - Interbase, varies times I tried to seek more
information and to change ideas about the use of Interbase (in forums
Delphi, php and java) and it always drops in Off-topic :-((...

Good, hey the following, what made me to enter in contact, it was - besides
the congratulations,
a "advice" :-))... first I will expose the situation:

1) I set up a virtual store, actually a complete system that is going from
the site (in PHP) it ties the corporate system (in Delphi), on access the
Interbase 4 in Linux (RedHat) (the version 6, didn't still exist).

2) my customer, besides the store (physics) hey owner and a supplier's
director,
and he/she has a good knowledge of safety in the Internet, etc... and
this
" demanding " that the system is housed in an equipment with the
Linux (distribution Slackware 7) because it considers that the same is
safer than RedHat 6.2 (I have mine you doubt, but...)

Now the problem:
- I installed Interbase 6 (classic) in the Slackware7 and for my surprise,
IB presented a problem... I don't get to alter or
cadastrar users with signal " -pw " :-(((, with the utilitarian " gsec ".
I try for example: " add jason -pw xyz001 " happens the mistake
"Segmentation fault" and the "gsec" miscarry!!! I Went behind and I repaired
that this mistake this reportado in " www.interbase.com ", and la was
suggested to do Upgrade of some libs of " 2.1.2 " for " 2.1.3 "...
I made that and the problem persists... no longer I know what I will do,
because the personnel doesn't open hand of Slackware; and he/she has a "
consultant "
that this suggesting the use of " PostGreSQL " in substitution
to " Interbase " :-(((,... I am resisting... because this will be a project
I " " of a commercial product that will offer starting from the
same.... and it imagines, if I substitute it for PostGreSql, the line
of the product it should have moved, therefore PostGreSql, tends for
Tcl/Tk...
... etc... etc...

Now the questions: : -)))

I thought of creating a structure in that WebServer is Slackware7
acessando the server of Data with RedHat through unixODBC... they put
didn't I find the driver ODBC (linux) for the IB6, do you know he/she/it exists??
and don't I also know he/she doesn't commit the peformance... will it be that is good?
In this case which plans " Power " it should be... (him Web or the one of data)?

Will it be that am making some wrong thing? It will be that the IB6 not
does it work even in the Slackware7? To who I coulded not recorer for
to " try " to solve this problem?

Actually I am running against the clock, because I am already without
arguments to suggest Interbase to PostGreSQL, because as
I can speak that IB hey better, if him not this nor working: - ((

It excuses the long e-mail, but hey that no longer I know to who to appeal,

I developed so much in Delphi as in PHP, using a layer
of abstraction, where I can change the bank, that the change for
PostGreSQL, would be it ties viable), soh will have to redraft the triggers

Interbase SuperServer that works with threads??? Some
howto of as to install in Linux (so much the Interbase qunto the
linuxthreads-0.8 "), as it works, etc...
