started. If it's not running, as indicated from the ps, changes in the
network or permission are probably not the problem.
If it partially runs, and crashes then you can get the socket held open
(netstat -a) will show it listening. That might explain the socket in
use messages.
As to why it's not running, path is not such a bad one (the file
/opt/interbase/bin/ibmgr should have a hardcoded $INTERBASE variable
pointing to /opt/interbase or wherever), but it's quite possible its
something else that's killing it.
Im sorry if i've missed part of the earlier thread, but have you tried
running classic, (I'd suggest the firebird one ;-). Even if it classic
also doesn't run, because of the way it works it may give better insight
into which library or whatever is causing the problem.
Another thing to do is to try running ibserver directly from the command
line (as root user usually) and see what happens.
