Thanks Frank.

I update the glibc to version 2.2-5.
But still the server dies, so please give me some more ideas.
Hereunder I list the log part and the error on the command line.
The only thing I haven't done now is installed the libncurses.so.3, but don't know where to get it, and what to do to install it ?,  and why I should need that ? All the other things, concerning the Interbase installation, I did as found on: http://www.interbase2000.com/doc_zamana.htm

Concerning the remarks of Brad Pepers about the /etc/inetd.conf and /etc/services:
- I do have an entry in the /etc/services but not in the /etc/inetd.conf, which doesn't suprise me as RedHat 7.0 doens't use the /etc/inetd.conf anymore, instead it use Xinetd.

Please some more help (See hereuder for the orginal mail)

Hellu,
I installed Interbase super server 6.0 on my RedHat 7.0 and have some
problems:
- During installation with rpm it complains, and displays the following
messages:
++++++++++++++
[root@ojo Interbase]# rpm -i InterBaseSS_LI-V6.0-1.i386.rpm
cannot get shared lock on /var/lib/rpm/Packages

cannot open Packages index using db3 - Operation not permitted (1)

--> The rpm database cannot be opened in db3 format.
If you have just upgraded the rpm package you need to convert
your database to db3 format by running "rpm --rebuilddb" as root.

Found a previous version of /usr/lib/libib_util.so.prev.lnk.prev.lnk
Renaming it to /usr/lib/libib_util.so.prev.lnk.prev.lnk.prev.lnk .
[root@ojo Interbase]#

I don't understand this error, as I have the latest rpm version (4) and did
the rebuilddb action ??
- After above errors, interbase is still installed, however when starting
the ibmgr: ibmgr -start on the command line, it just dies after a half a
minute and the following errors appear in the log file:
+++++++++++++
ojo (Client) Wed Nov 29 21:24:31 2000

ojo (Client) Wed Nov 29 21:24:46 2000
/opt/interbase/bin/ibguard: bin/ibserver normal shutdown.

+++++++++++++
Please some help on the above errors, or some information on where to find
the description of the above error codes in the log file.
Additional information:
- In installed interbase as explained at
<http://www.interbase2000.com/doc_zamana.htm>
The only things I didn't do, was installing the lastest version of the glibc
and install a older version of libncurses.so.3.
I don't think it is because of this, as it doesn't complains about it.
Furthermore a made a symbolic link from the libncurses.so.3 to libncurses.so
Regards,
Ed Bras
