Ann,
No, _please_, no... not the registry...
As a first step (along what will undoubtedly be a loonng road) can I
suggest the use of a simple text file (named IBAlias, much like
IBConfig) with the following simple layout/structure.
AliasName1=Path:\DB1.GDB
AliasName2=Path:\DB2.GDB
...
The sysadmin would use their favorite text editor to create/maintain the
file. Also, like IBConfig would not be exposed to remote clients and
therefore provide a good deal of security (not necessarily perfect).

remember that it came to a clear decision. My inclination is to use
the registry on Windows systems since other environments can (and do)
use symbolic links and logical names.
