Referring to a scheme to keep back versions
indefinitely to give "versions" to the
database - e.g. "Give me last Thursday's
customer list."

Well, that's not a new idea, but every time
we've looked at it we've found that the
requirements of a versioning system differ
depending on what you're studying.
