I agree completely with the motivation for the execute sql statement,
but the current implementation fundamentally breaks the layering.
Happily, however, the internal Vulcan JDBC interface (when completed, of
course) provides a supportable alternative implementation.

I suggest that extentions and/or other general improvements be deferred
until the large architectural issues are addressed.
