This I think is going to be the biggest issue with adding support for
features like XML etc.

Firebird/Interbase has always had at the top of its list of selling points,
low admin, and small size (I squased an install onto a diskette only the
other day). If features like XML support are added to the core engine, I
think that would be the start of a slippery slope to bloat and increased
admin.

Not sure what the answer is, though
