You might already know of 'Compiere', a very good
and widely used open source ERP & CRM package for
small/medium businesses.

Compiere is probably the most active project in SF (almost
always within top 5).

Currently it uses Oracle. I would like it to be able to run on
Firebird, for several selfish reasons amongst which is also
the fact that it would help make FB a prominent contender
to MySQL and PostgreSQL in open source arena.

They have tried to switch to PostgreSQL, but as Compiere
uses 'Embedded Transactions' feature of Oracle, they had
to abandon the conversion.

Could someone shed some light on what this Embedded
Transactions' magic bullet is, and if Firebird has it, or if
there are plans.
