Vince,
Now that's a name I haven't seen on the lists for a while.
Jim,
IYNSHO, how broke is the optimizer? (H=humble) :-)
I have opened the source once and looked over a couple of shoulders, but now
I have some time I intend getting to 1st base (compiling under Windows). So
I am not in a good position to say what is the best direction, is it:
- scrap it and look for an algorithm that fits the IB datastorage
- Wait for the C++ port and try and OO it to produce a more elegant model
- document how it works, take a long look and make minor changes
- get a carrier bag of poor performers (SQL) + an archive of good performers
and hack about until performance improves?
Hopefully not the last one.
Are there better algorithms than are implemented in FB or is it not possible
to abstract algorithms because they are too closely linked to the
architecture of the data storage?
Cheers,
JAC
