Most major RDBMS have a mechanism to hint indexes to the optimizer, if
not to bypass completely the optimizer, to have way to do that is not
evil by itself, if not existed, PLANs must have be developed..

The Problems are in the bugs optimizer has, not in the features set FB
has..
