FireBird 1.0 will be incompatible with Borland's IB anyway -
if FB will support SELECT TOP, any application that uses such syntax will
not work with IB. Also FB's backup with SELECT TOP in procedure or trigger
will not be restorable with Borland's IB.
(Right now FB's backup can corrupt database being restored with IB, if
there are lot of generators in backup - isn't it?)

A lot of people already decided to stay with FB or IB. I know some people
who still playing with both, but at last they will choose one.
Motivations to choose FB are:
1. builds are free (not certified, but they exist)
2. there are more OS supported (Darwin, FreeBSD, Solaris(Intel))
3. people can monitor bugfixes
4. developers more closer to community, because they are part of community itself.

sorry for subject follow-off.
