A while back, I joked about rebuilding the IB source to run on
Delphi/Pascal. Now that I hear about what a disaster the C code is, and the
amount of work it's going to take to get it into decent shape, maybe its not
such a joke anymore. I personally, know next to nothing about C programming,
so I don't know how easily it could be done. I see a lot of components(IBO
comes to mind) that run on both compilers, so it must not be impossible. It
probably would not be as much of a re-write, as it would be a "reverse
engineered" clone. Kind of like what Compaq did to IBM's BIOS many moons
ago.

If IB were to be "ported" to Delphi/Pascal, would it still be the property
of Inprise? The actual code would be substantially different. I think the
"rule of thumb" for copyright infringement is that it must be at least 30%
different. I'm certainly not trying to suggest anyone "steal" IB, but given
the antics of Inprise, I would feel better if they were 100% out of the
picture. In fact, at times I wish they would sell Delphi.

Im probably way out of line here, but it's just an idea I thought I would
throw out there.

Paul
