I fear that MS's idea behind the registry is just another attempt to screw the
users. It ought to be a good idea except that they haven't really followed
through on it. The tools to access it are primitive and clunky. Backing up the
registry is something that I bet most readers of this list don't do and don't
know how to do - it can't be backed up using standard backup software and the
backup option given requires a floppy disc (except the data is usually too big
to fit on a floppy disc).
Centralising configuration information is a good idea. Making it excessively
difficult to view, edit, archive or restore from is not.
