InterBase Aliases v0.1 has just been released. I went ahead and wrote it. So
there.
The .zip I uploaded to http://www.egroups.com/files/IB-Architect/ has the
following contents:
. ClientTest folder: an application to test the server.
. ConfigurationEditor folder: an GUI application to edit the alias
configuration file.
. docs: a user guide, a reference for the protocol used, and how to build
the ConfigurationEditor with Delphi 5.
. WinServer folder: an implementation of the protocol for Windows.
. D5Utils.zip: my library of routines, some of which are required by
WinServer and ConfigurationEditor.
. System.zip: my library of system components, some of which are required by
WinServer and ConfigurationEditor.
One of the biggest doubts I have is: how do I assign a port number? I
hard-coded 2500 just because it worked and I know of no other application
which uses it, but I'm sure there's got to be a guide somewhere on where to
register port numbers or something like that. Or maybe there's a range
reserved for local networks where each company can use whatever it wants?
It seems to be working ok. Feedback is, as always, very welcome.
Have fun.
