Chuck,
There is a method of the TIB_Connection component called VeryifyConnection
(spelling?). It attempts an API call to retrieve some information from the
server. If it is successful then it returns true. Otherwise, it returns
false after it has timed out.
Aside from this, I don't know what else to suggest.

Subject: [IBO] Best way to deal with "Unable to complete network request to
host "XX.X.XXX.XXX"?
Hello:
I have a program which uses a cheap web site (that's how I feel at the
moment about it :) ) to host a security database. I have written the logic
to test the internet connection then try to connect to the web site security
database.
I use a TRY Connect Except...
But in this real world example when the web site is down (hosting company
knows of the issue, apparently the node is down), the code to deal with this
does not work.
How do I deal with this in IBObjects? Is there some way of testing the
connection. I actually ping the IP address and that does not seem to be
enough.
Thank you!
