The Database Comparer VCL components from Clever Components work very well, and they can be used within your application. We've been using it for approximately 12 years.
The problem with having scripts to update on the clients, is that you might need to distribute more than one script, if not all your customers are on the latest version of your application, and that you will need to run the scripts sequentially. With the Database Comparer VCL components, you simply need to distribute a blank (metadata only) database file for the comparison, and Database Comparer will generate and execute the appropriate DDL statements on the customer's database.
