Hi Charlie,
Here is what I would recommend based on my experiences and bias ;-)
BDS 2006
Firebird
IBO
ReportBuilder http://www.digital-metaphors.com/ (I didn't know Ace was
still around)
IB Expert www.ibexpert.com <http://www.ibexpert.com/> database management
tool
As for remote connectivity, I have found IBO to be too slow to connect
directly. I've heard of other folks doing this so it could be the way my
app is designed.
I've used MS Terminal Services for remote connectivity and it works pretty
decent.
I'm looking into RemObjects for n-tier development. www.remobjects.com
<http://www.remobjects.com/> (would love to get some other's comments
here)
Cheers,
Kevin

Hi, I love learning curves but at my age I don't have time to go
through unproductive ones so would you help me to know exactly what I
need (database tools, database, development environment etc) to make my
Delphi 5 dBase order entry application so that it is client server and
will allow remote users to access it as well as the those who curretly
access it on the local lan.
My research suggests the following - Firebird and IBObjects for sure.
But in addition to these what else do I need - (besides a whole lot of
experience/expertise that I don't have at the moment, lol). Oh, I just
purchased an upgrade to BDS2006, Infopower and Ace Reports.
I guess another way of saying this is if you have an application that
is used on a LAN and has or could have remote users as well what all do
you have/use.
Thanks so much.
Charlie
PS I wish I knew just a little of what Jason and Helen know. Thank you
all for being so wonderful in responding to all of us on these groups.
