I'm open to suggestions. Perhaps you can add a property to the control to
determine its behavior when in search mode.

I can't. I'm using a TIB_SearchPanel and you know that when you have typed
something and you press Enter the search is performed by mean of a Post.
I'd like to trap the error in this case or almost avoid to output it
somehow.
