I think you will be able to answer all of your questions if you compile the
IB_FTS project (in the root of your IBO installation) and play with the
resulting sample app. As well as showing you how to use the components,
this app actually *works* as a basic tool for setting up FTS metadata and
kicking off the self-maintaining search engine.
