hi Alan, sorry, i didn't know where to intercept
i am a solution developer, not a system developer, and for my "automatic
updates of my clients",
i zip with zipmaster the exefiles and store this zipped files as binary
blob,
after fetching out the db i unpack this files also with zipmaster
programmable,
but i don't use an event in a dataset or so ...
I only use two IBO components for my whole work this is: TIBODatabase and
TIBOQuery,
nothing else ... this are my connection to firebird, and with this i made a
big
software system with many programs and databasebased: mail, ticketsystem,
workflow,
scheduling, reports, planingmodules, automatical updates, a "just in time
Datawarehouse",
a mailingserver based on firebird (for email, fax and printing, worddocs
will be filled out, with
my own sytem of placeholders, they are stored also as Blob in db) and and
and and ...
now a onlinereporting with Firebird, PHP and Apacheserver (p.e. Jpgs will be
streamed directly in the browser, comming out
of db as blob), now i will try Flash-PHP-Firebird,
all this is part of my Software Suite, a telemarketing software system.
I was a pioneer with Delphi 1.0 and Interbase 4.0 a long time before:)
And in a life before i can remember of Sinqlair QL Computer, Borland Turbo
Pascal,
VAX and Open VMS with a special kind of Pascal,
and before Fortran 77, loooooool, and my first programm was written on
punchcards ...
and i am waiting and waiting for keyboard-less computers:)

This is what I'd like to do Gerard, I need to be able to intercept the
storage of the binary file, though, before update or insert and zip the
stream - do you know how/where to intercept it in the native datasets?
