This is also a mysterious for me.
With isql you could specify larger values successfully.
Maybe the reason is that integers have to be specified on DPB with
least significant byte first ??

Not entirely. To implement the ability into IBO to leave this setting
untouched should be good anyway. In my opinion such setting should
not be set from the client (at least for superserver as it influences
all connections).
