Yes an explicit call to Edit is what I need there.

I had converted the code from paradox db and failed
to take in to account the fact that a commitretaining
would end the Edit state of a file.

Then the problem was compounded by the first assignment
putting the file back into edit state without retaining
the value of the field (in the current version of IBO,
when I did the conversion it worked).
