I must be missing something, I thought that would have worked.

Can you put a breakpoint in the TIB_CustomEdit.SysStateChanged method
(in IBC_Edit.IMP as well as your code. We need to see which is the
last item called. If the StateChanged function is the last one, can
you give the callstack that occurs when that last assignment to
MaxLength is hit.
